How to Use Shortcodes for Products in Proposals
Shortcodes automatically insert specific product names into your proposals, saving you from manually typing product details for each customer.
What Shortcodes Do
Shortcodes are words in brackets that Roof Chief automatically replaces with actual product names. For example, writing "We propose to install [shingle], [underlayment], and [starter]" becomes "We propose to install CertainTeed Patriot, Diamond Deck underlayment, and WeatherBlocker starter."
Creating Shortcodes
Step 1: Add the Shortcode
- Go to Settings
- Click Proposals
- Select Shortcodes at the bottom
- Click New Shortcode button
- Type a name for your shortcode (like "vent" for venting products)
- The shortcode is automatically saved (no save button needed) You can use the Find function to search existing shortcodes before creating new ones. Step 2: Associate Shortcodes with Products
- Go to Settings
- Click Products
- Select Product Catalog
- Navigate to your product folders
- Scroll right to find the Shortcode column
- For each product, click Manage
- Type the shortcode name (like "shingle")
- Select the matching shortcode from the dropdown
- The association is automatically saved
Using Shortcodes in Proposals
Once you've created shortcodes and associated them with products:
- Write your proposal text using shortcode names in brackets
- Include the product in your estimate
- Roof Chief automatically replaces the shortcode with the actual product name Example: If you use CertainTeed Patriot shingles in your estimate and write "We propose to install [shingle]" in your proposal, it becomes "We propose to install CertainTeed Patriot."
Benefits
Shortcodes ensure your proposals automatically reflect the specific products in each estimate without manual editing. This saves time and reduces errors while creating professional, accurate proposals that match your actual material selections.
