How To Edit A Contact

Contact information changes — a homeowner gets a new cell number, a second property gets added, a lead's source needs correcting. This article covers editing the information on an existing contact.

When you'd use it

  • A customer gives you a better number to reach them
  • You need to add a second property address for the same owner
  • Consent was gathered after the contact was created and the opt-in needs to be recorded
  • A contact was entered quickly during a call and needs cleaning up

Before you start

Which fields appear on the contact depends on your contact settings. Your admin controls both the standard fields and any custom fields your account uses.

Getting to the contact card

Everything starts on the contact card. You can reach it three ways:

  1. From the Contacts page

    1. Go to the Contacts page.
    2. Find the contact and click on them.
  2. From search

Use the search function in the left nav bar and click the contact in the results. Fastest option when you already know who you're looking for.

  3. From a project

Click the contact name in the project header. Use this when you're already working a job and need to check or update the homeowner's details.

What you can edit from the contact card

The contact card is organized into sections, and each is edited independently:

Section What's there
Contact fields Name, phone numbers, email, address, source, company, plus any custom fields
Consent SMS and email opt-in authorizations
Appointments Scheduled appointments with the contact
History Past communication and activity
Campaigns Which campaigns the contact is enrolled in
Notes Contact notes
Projects Projects tied to this contact
Locations Addresses associated with the contact
Recent activity Latest actions on the record

Editing information

  1. Find the section you want to change.
  2. Click the Edit link on that section.
  3. The editable fields open.
  4. Make your changes. For example, you can:
    • Add another phone number and set whether it's the primary
    • Add a second or third address
    • Update the source or company information
    • Change any custom field
  5. Save.

Changes are reflected on the contact immediately. Custom fields work the same way — click Edit on that section, adjust, save.

Tips and gotchas

Edit is section by section, not one big form. If you don't see the field you're looking for, you're likely in the wrong section's edit view. Look for the Edit link on the section that holds the field.

Add phone numbers, don't overwrite them. When a customer gives you a new number, add it and set it as primary rather than typing over the old one. If the new number goes unanswered, you still have a way to reach them.

Consent can be updated after creation. If a contact was entered before you gathered consent, come back and check the opt-in once you have it. Until then, that contact won't receive automated campaign messages.

The reverse matters more: if a customer asks to stop receiving texts or emails, update the consent here. Honor opt-out requests promptly — this is a compliance obligation, not a preference setting.

Fix the source field. It's easy to skip during a rushed intake, and it's the field that tells you which marketing spend is actually producing jobs. Correcting it later is worth the ten seconds.

Multiple addresses vs. multiple contacts. One owner with two properties is one contact with two locations. Two different people at the same address are two contacts. Getting this right keeps communication history intact.
