# Setup: Connecting An Exterio Lead Form To Your Website

## Once your lead form is built, you can put it on your website in two ways: embed it right on a page, or link to it. Either way, every submission lands in Exterio, goes to the right person, and carries your logo and colors.

### When would I use this?

- You want the “Free Estimate” form on your website to send leads straight into Exterio.
- You’re replacing a website contact form that only sends an email.
- You want new website leads to rotate between your reps automatically.
- You want a link to your form for a button, an email, a social media post or a QR code.

### Before you start

- **Only users with Feature Settings access can manage lead forms.** By default, that’s Admins and Managers.
- **Build your form first.** See “Setup: Create and Edit a Lead Form.”
- **Know who manages your website.** To embed the form, someone needs to paste a short piece of code into your site. If you don’t edit your website yourself, you’ll send the code to your web person.

### How do I open my lead form’s settings?

Go to **Settings** \> **Feature Settings** \> **Lead Form**, then click the form you want to connect.

### Should I embed my form or link to it?

| **Option** | **What visitors see** | **Best for** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **JavaScript Embed** | The form appears right on your web page | Your main “Contact us” or “Free estimate” page |
| **Direct Link** | A page hosted by Exterio with just your form | A button on your website, emails, social media, Google Business Profile, or a QR code |

You can use both for the same form.

### How do I embed my form on my website?

Add your website’s domain to **Allowed Domains**, copy the **JavaScript Embed** snippet, and paste it into your web page.

1. Scroll to **API Key & Custom Integration**.
2. In **Allowed Domains**, enter your website’s domain, like fastenproroofing.com. To list more than one, separate them with commas, like mysite.com, www.mysite.com.
3. Scroll back up to **JavaScript Embed** and click the copy icon.
4. Paste the snippet into your web page where you want the form to appear. If someone else manages your website, send them the snippet.
5. Make sure the form is set to **Published** at the top of the page.
6. Open your web page and check that the form appears.

The form shows up exactly where the snippet is placed on the page, up to about 520 pixels wide. It uses its own styling, so your website’s styles won’t change how it looks.

Each form has its own snippet. If you have more than one form, copy the snippet from the form you want on that page.

### Where do I find the instructions for my web person?

Under **API Key & Custom Integration**, copy the link under **Public Documentation for Your Web Developer** and send it to them. They can open it without signing in to Exterio. Your API key isn’t included, so send that to them separately if they’re building a custom integration.

### How do I link to my form?

Under **Direct Link**, click the copy icon next to the form’s link and paste it wherever you want people to find it.

Click the open icon to preview the page your visitors will see.

Common places to use the link:

- A “Get a Free Estimate” button on your website
- Your Google Business Profile, Facebook page or Instagram bio
- Email signatures and newsletters
- A QR code on yard signs, door hangers or truck wraps

### How do I route leads from my form to the right person?

Point the form’s **Contact Owner** (and **Salesperson**, for forms that create a project) at one person or at a lead assignment rule.

**To set up a rule:**

1. On the **Lead Forms** page, under **Lead Assignment Rules**, click **New rule**.
2. Enter a **Rule name**, like “Storm team rotation.”
3. Under **Assigns**, choose **Contact Owner** or **Salesperson**.
4. Under **Assign**, choose **One person** or **Round robin**.
5. Choose the person, or choose the people to **Rotate through**. Each submission goes to the next person in the order shown. Drag names to change the order.
6. Click **Save rule**.
7. Open the form and go to **Form Fields**.
8. Add **Contact Owner** (or **Salesperson**) to the form. It’s always a hidden field, because showing it would list your team members to anyone who opens the form.
9. Click the pencil on the field and choose your rule as its value.

**To use the rule on a form:**

You can use the same rule on as many forms as you like. For forms that create a project, you can also set **Contact Owner** to **Same as Salesperson**, so one person owns both.

| **Your form’s setup** | **Who gets the lead** |
| --- | --- |
| Contact Owner or Salesperson points to one person | That person, every time |
| Contact Owner or Salesperson points to a rule | The person the rule picks |
| No owner set on the form | Your contact lead assignment rules in **Settings** \> **Feature Settings** \> **Contacts** \> **Lead Assignment** |

### How does branding work on my form?

Every lead form uses your account branding: your logo and your primary color. The form’s background, buttons and text colors are set from your primary color automatically, so the form stays easy to read.

To change it, click **Edit Branding** on the **Lead Forms** page. This opens **Settings** \> **Account Settings** \> **Branding**, where you can change your logo and colors. The change shows up on all your forms.

You can change each form’s **Header Text** and **Thank You Message** under **Content**. See “Setup: Create and Edit a Lead Form.”

### How do I see which ads or campaigns my leads came from?

Make sure **Capture URL parameters** is turned on under **Lead Attribution**. When someone clicks an ad and lands on a page with your form, Exterio records the campaign details from the link (like utm\_source and utm\_campaign) with their submission.

The embedded form remembers where a visitor first came from for 30 days, even if they browse around your site before filling out the form.

### Tips and gotchas

- **Add every version of your domain.** If your site works at both mysite.com and www.mysite.com, list both under **Allowed Domains**. If the domain your site is on isn’t listed, the embedded form won’t appear.
- **Test it like a homeowner would.** After you publish, open your website on your phone, fill out the form, and check that the contact (and project) shows up in Exterio, assigned to the right person.
- **Keep the form Published.** A form set to **Draft** won’t take submissions, even if the snippet is on your website.
- **Use a separate form for each campaign.** A form for your storm campaign, another for your home show and another for your website make it easy to see where every lead came from. Each form has its own snippet and link.
- **Don’t change the link after you share it.** Changing a form’s link breaks it everywhere the old one is posted or printed, including QR codes on signs.
- **Put the form where people decide.** Your estimate page is a given, but the form also works well at the bottom of service pages and your gallery page.
